All That I Know is Right Now

I was in the shower with Stay Ready by Jhene Aiko, blasting out my speakers with the water hitting my face and body. The lyrics that started playing was:

There’s no place quite like here

There’s no better time than now.

That’s why I stay ready

I got a bit emotional in that moment because I realized just how important the present is, and how easily we let it slip away, getting caught up in the so-called past and future. It reinforced my understanding that my ideal self happens through action, not just the thoughts I tell myself to propel my life forward. YES, your thoughts play a huge part in what your life consists of! But it really comes down to action: doing, materializing… aka having motion.

Even the lyrics prior to the ones I’m using for the title of this article convey how sacred the right now is. Me writing this article in this moment, simply because I had an inkling to start typing, is the sacredness, because here I am in complete FLOW, just by listening to my intuition.

The mind is so beautiful, but it’s also extremely deceiving. Daydreaming and diving deep into your imagination can be addictive. When your brain cannot always tell the difference between what’s real and what’s simulated, it becomes easy to believe you’ve achieved more than you actually have (Article Here), which can stop you from putting in the work that truly needs to be done.

When you put away all the distractions, in your mind and everywhere else (vices, societal pressures, etc.), you realize you have more time on your hands than you think. Although we don’t all have the same 24 hours (and some may argue that we do), with the time we do have after our obligations, we can accomplish far more than we ever imagined (no pun intended).

Maintaining a sober mind has taught me a lot, but one lesson that directly correlates with this topic is this: I truly control where I put my energy.
